Water Chemistry Testing & Balancing in Clovis & Fresno, CA

Dunrite Pool & Spa Service tests and balances pool water for homeowners and commercial properties in Clovis, Fresno and our other service communities. We measure free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, stabilizer and calcium hardness before adjusting the chemistry. Each reading describes a different part of the water. A clean surface cannot supply those measurements, and one sanitizer result does not describe the whole balance. We work from the numbers rather than the water's color.

Why homeowners choose Dunrite

Five readings with different jobs

A water test puts numbers behind the balancing work.

  • Free chlorine: typically about 1 to 3 ppm, measuring available sanitizer.
  • pH: usually 7.2 to 7.8, describing the water's acidity or alkalinity.
  • Total alkalinity: typically 80 to 120 ppm, read alongside pH as part of balance.
  • Stabilizer, or cyanuric acid: about 30 to 50 ppm. Calcium hardness: about 200 to 400 ppm.

These are typical chlorine-pool target ranges. Testing establishes your actual readings. Free chlorine and stabilizer are separate values; pH and alkalinity also need individual attention. Calcium hardness adds the mineral measurement to the picture. Keeping the results separate helps us identify what needs changing rather than choosing a product from a cloudy surface.

Measure first, then balance

  1. We take water readings first. Measuring the current free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, stabilizer and hardness gives the visit a record of the balance before any chemistry adjustment is made.
  2. Each result is reviewed against typical pool-care ranges. We connect the readings to the concern you described, including a changing sanitizer result or questions about calcium at the waterline.
  3. Chemistry adjustments follow the test. When the water is also carrying dirt or the return jets are weak, cleaning and filter attention stay in the picture.

Give water readings a regular place

Testing belongs in a regular care routine. Summer warmth increases chlorine demand as pool water heats up, so an old reading loses usefulness. Refilling changes the mix in the pool too. Weekly maintenance supplies a repeating testing point; current water changes are another reason to measure.

Reasons to look beyond appearance

  • Current water readings are missing.
  • Free chlorine moves outside the typical range.
  • pH or alkalinity needs balancing.
  • Waterline scale raises calcium-hardness questions.

For owners wanting measured answers

This service is for an owner wanting measured answers about water condition. You might have a tidy pool with missing readings, or a particular chemistry value that has changed. Property managers also use water testing alongside cleaning and equipment care.

Connect readings with cleaning and filtration

Filtration deals with captured particles, while algae treatment combines several recovery tasks. The weekly plan gives testing a repeating place with physical cleaning.

Making sense of pool test results

Which five measurements make up the chemistry check?

Free chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, cyanuric acid and calcium hardness make up the check. Each has a different role. Reading them as separate values is more useful than treating sanitizer as the only number in pool care.

What does ppm mean on a pool water result?

Ppm means parts per million. Free chlorine, alkalinity, stabilizer and calcium hardness typically use that unit. pH uses its own scale, so it should not be read as another parts-per-million result on the test.

How should I use the typical target ranges?

Use them as chlorine-pool reference ranges alongside an actual test. A typical target does not establish today's reading in your water. Measuring first shows which value needs attention before you choose the adjustment.

Why check chemistry when the water has no visible debris?

A clear surface cannot show sanitizer or water balance. Free chlorine, pH, alkalinity, stabilizer and hardness need tests even when leaves are absent. Physical cleaning and measured chemistry answer separate questions about the same pool.
